MIDTOWN BIKE LANE BARRIER MURAL PROJECT

JONESY on Atlanta New First
Atlanta-based artist Jonesy and her team were selected by the Atlanta Department of Transportation, in partnership with the City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs for the Midtown Bike Lane Barrier Mural project. This mural is a community engagement project that aims to bring a safe space for bicycle traffic while offering community pride and joy through the power of art. This mural will be created during October and November 2024 at a secure location and eventually installed on 10th Street between Piedmont Ave NE and Monroe Drive NE. During community paint days, the community volunteers will be guided in the painting process to help bring this mural to life!

This project is funded by the Safety & Mobility Fund through the City of Atlanta Office of Strategy and Planning, Deputy Commissioner Betty Smoot-Madison. Administered by the Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT), Vision Zero is a systems-based approach to eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries through safer street design, speed management, and other proven strategies.

Starting Saturday, October 19th through November 17th, we will have 2-hour shifts available Saturday-Sunday between 10-4 pm. Feel free to sign up for as many as you would like. Anyone on site must sign a waiver (even if you aren’t painting). Children under 18 must have a guardian present, and we will have coloring pages for children under 7 years old or anyone who wants one.

Painting will require sitting, kneeling, and bending since the barriers are very low to the ground. We will have a few kneeling pads available.  Please wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting paint on, bring water and sunscreen if needed.
